The sport of cycling is fast and exciting, and L’ Étape du California will be looking for fun, energetic and reliable volunteers to match the needs and the energy of the event!
Volunteers play an integral part of the success of L’ Étape du California, and will be needed to help fill important roles in the days leading up to the race, and especially on race day. Volunteers will receive a special L’ Étape du California volunteer T-shirt and goodie bag! Best of all, you will feel great for helping out all those determined athletes. As a side benefit, it is a great way to meet people.
With an event of this scale, there’s something for EVERYONE! Available volunteer positions include:
Course Marshals – Assigned a designated area along the race course to assist with the coordination and safety of the field of play for all race venues; keep the course clear of pedestrians, spectators, cars, etc; PR Ambassador: keep spectators informed.
Registration/Packet Pick Up – Assist staff with participant registration the day before and morning of the event. Rider check in; distribution of materials including chips, bibs, jerseys and goody bags, completion of USA Cycling waiver/one day license, check in for mandatory race briefings and answer any rider questions.
Pre and Post Race Expo – Assist expo staff with coordination of both Saturday and Sunday events. Guide vendors and exhibitors to their tents for set-up, assist with logistics as needed.
Start and/or Finish Line Support – Assist with logistics to ensure a safe line up and roll out of cyclists for the start of the event. Guide riders to parking areas, hospitality tents, sign in, and directional assistance for start of event. Help staff guide finishing riders in to finish line area and to post race festival.
Rest Stops – Assist with set up and maintenance of rest stops along the course. Distribute fluid and food to riders and assist riders as necessary. Assist with breakdown and clean up of rest stop area.
Finish Festival – Assist Festival staff with post ride festival including set up, guiding of vendors, guiding of riders and guests to post ride meal and entertainment. Logistical support and assistance with break down of festival.
Site Decoration/Restoration – Assist Logistics Crew with hanging and tear-down of banners: on-course, hospitality, etc. Broken into Two Shifts (Morning Set-up and Load-in: 2 hrs; Afternoon Breakdown 2 hrs.).
Volunteer Check-in – Assist the Volunteer Coordinator with set-up, check-in/registration and deployment.
Security – Assist Security Staff with access-control, including on-course, hospitality, awards, green room and press conference. Assist VIPs.
